BBC SPORT | Rugby Union | English | Wasps suffer 'reality check'

Birmingham Solihull RFC had an excellent result yesterday against Wasps and an added bonus for fans must have come last night when John Inverdale's rugby programme was broadcast from the club. It was great to see Maynard, almost minus mullett these days, enjoying the plaudits.

But who was that bloke they made him sit next to? It was our old chum Tim Watts, who in the minute or so that Inverdale allowed him, managed to appear both pompous and condescending. When asked about forking out money to have teams change their name he replied, "It was started by a team called Harlequins, anybody remember them?" Yes mate. Longer than we'll remember you.

And where did he get that accent? Somebody ought to tell him that the elocution lessons failed. He sounds like a Brummy version of Alf Ramsay.

Our sincere hope is that in future he will let the team do the talking.
